Hey, it's Minnow!
I will be covering the Art AP courses. I made a 5 in 2D, Drawing, and 3D; I look forward to helping you all!
This is an article on CollegeBoard that talks about the different courses.
Within the separate pages, there may be parts that repeat between APs. However, there will be sections to talk about their differences.
I hope this page is helpful to you all!
*Will be discussed more in-depth later*
I'm going to put some art tips here that I've learned through these courses. These could potentially play a big role in your future pieces!
IMPERFECTION > PERFECTION
These courses aren't here to see you make the "perfect" piece, but how you grow as an artist. Most pieces should be done in two to three weeks, so you may not have enough time to perfect your piece. It's okay, though! Just keep making pieces at a sustainable pace to meet deadlines. You'd be surprised how many submitted pieces can be done in less than a week.
LEARN TO TAKE CRITICISM
This was a hard lesson for me to learn, but it was essential for growth. New perspectives allow you to have new ideas. There will always be good and bad opinions, so take the good out of each critique to improve your piece. From personal experience, my teacher used to be very harsh on my colors (I was color-blind), but that helped me overcome a barrier I thought I could never pass.
VALUE!!!
I remember one day my teacher told me, "Put your darkest darks next to your lightest lights." It was so simple, yet it never clicked to me that it would change my art completely. Don't be afraid to use value! The readers are looking at your portfolio on a screen, not the actual physical/digital piece. This helps bring shape to your drawings that contrast and stand out!
