Hello !! It's Benni, and I'll be covering both Micro and Macro economics ! Economics isn't quite a STEM AP, but it is counted as a science course.
Before I begin going in depth into the course, here's a breakdown of both exams.
I recommend taking Macro only if you have a strong background in economics, or if you have already taken Micro before. This is simply because Unit 1 of Macroeconomics is essentially an overview of the entirety of Micro, so it may be difficult to understand or to catch up with the amount of content that will be covered.
For the exam, you are NOT allowed anything better then a 4 function calculator.
Exam breakdown (same for both) :
Total time - 2 hrs 10 min
Section 1 : 1 hr 10 min || 60 MCQ || 66% of your score
Section 2 : 1 hr || 3 FRQs || 33% of your score
In most of your previous APs, FRQs are generally weighted at the same level as MCQs or 50%+ of your score. In economics, FRQs are only worth a third of your score so I suggest you take advantage of that and focus on MCQs !!
To get a 5 in Micro, you need to score at least a 75/90.
To get a 5 in Macro, you need to score at least a 73/90.
While these are subject to change every year, I suggest you aim to score at least a 75/90 if you want a 5.
