Hi, this is Kate!
I'll be introducing the topic of competitive robotics, which is a growing STEM extracurricular that combines mechanical design, software engineering, and teamwork into exciting real-world problem solving. Robotics competitions are a great way to show your passion for engineering and innovation, and they also make a strong addition to your extracurricular list for college applications.
Just like academic UIL, robotics offers a variety of competitions to choose from, each with its own format, focus, and style. I personally focus on FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge), but I'll try my best to explain other formats like VEX Robotics and SkillsUSA Robotics based on what I know and the resources I can find.
In these posts, I'll explain the structure of each competition, general rules, team organization, and engineering strategies. While I can't fully provide you with all the data to make your competition robot perfect, I'll do my best to give you an approach that can help make it great or, at the very least, help you improve it!
